Lifetime warranty on hot water tanks a good deal?
MD asked:
I’m looking to replace my hot water tank and noticed that Home Depot offered a lifetime warranty if I purchase one from them. Has anyone gone with this offer or know someone that has and if so has there been any negative experiences with it? Thanks.

Problems with cloudy tank water?
Steven B asked:
I have a 29 Gallon Tank in my home. I have a red-eared slider turtle living in it, I just got him yesterday, he’s about 4 inches long and yesterday night the water was crystal-clear and now it’s super cloudy! I don’t know why! It has a filter that’s up to 30 gallons, and there’s only about 18 gallons of water in the tank! Why is the water so cloudy? Please help me!!!

why is the water in my fish tank so cloudy?
danilhastings asked:
i bought the tank last week and the first few days it was crystal clear now its very cloudy. im not sure how big the tank is but i bought the tank and got 7 fish so im sure its not over populated or the person at the pet shop would have said something. im not sure what type of fish they are either but they are white and black and pretty small (like 1 inch long)
at first i thought it was the filter because when i poke the rocks with the net bits of food and poop come out of it. i went back to the pet shop and the girl said that the filter is fine but i might be overfeeding. she said to empty a quarter of the tanks water every 2 days and replace it with clean water.
i went home emptied the tank and put new water in and fed the fish less but it got cloudy even when i changed the water every 2 days and its still very coudy whats wrong??
the water also gets hot sometimes. if i open the top to feed them and i can feel heat coming from the water. i dont put the light on during the day and the weather is always cold.
the fish are like some of the fancy goldfish but
some are black and some are white and there is 1 that is bron and gold (proper gold like a ring not orange)
they look most like Red Ryukin Goldfish except they arent red or orange
the tank is only 10 gallons and is sais the fish need a 30gallon tank, do i have a problem???
the pet shop had roughly a 30gallon tank (judging by the size of mine) and they had well over 100 of this type of fish in it it was PACKED full of them so i dont think a 30 gallon tank for 7 fish is a big deal for my tank

Hot water takes forever! Is it the electric tank?
kwow420 asked:
We have a brand new master bathroom in a 30-year-old home. The water in the shower and in the sink takes about 45 seconds to warm up, about a minute to get hot. The guest bath also is slow, but not as bad. The kitchen and other bath in the house are fine. The master is above the garage. Most of the exposed copper lines are wrapped in insulation. Our hot water heater is 12+ years old.
I’m thinking either the insulation is poor and we have to rewrap the pipes? Or is there a valve in the new master bath, or in the garage, that is not open all the way to allow enough hot water through?
And the hot water tank is electric. Someone suggested that electric heaters take longer to heat water than gas ones. Is this the case?
Thanks!

If an inexpensive refit was widely available, would you do this in your home or business to conserve water?
bluewater asked:
I’ve spent much of the last 3 years living on a sailboat. We can stay out for 6 weeks before refilling our 100-gallon water tank. Here in the US, each American averages 150 gallons every DAY. This is far and away more than any other country in the world.
On the boat, we use a foot pump to draw water into our sink. Every full down/up cycle of the pump gives us 1/2 cup of water. If we wish to fill a pasta pot or a kettle, we rapidly pump several cycles and water flows quite fast. Our water never flows freely without action from the foot pump. I was amazed at how quickly we adapted to its use, and how much we enjoyed the hands-free element of it.
So I wonder if all you citizens of the world (especially in water-strapped regions) would consider implementing this change if it was easy enough to do…
If there was a easy way to adapt a simple foot pump to the pressure water in your home, would you do it? Would you be willing to adjust to a slightly less convenient method of getting water from your faucet? What about in your shower? Would you be willing to shampoo and bathe yourself while operating a foot pump? Sure, your dishwasher and laundry would run as usual, but could you get used to the change in your faucet? Would you embrace the idea? What if it cost less than $50 per faucet?
For all you brilliant DIYers: I imagine there is a way to accomplish this, but I’m an editor not an engineer. Can anyone with related knowledge speak on the subject? Can such a pump even work with a pressurized system? Here is the pump we use on the boat: http://www.whalepumps.com/marine/product…
And if it really seemed feasible and I wanted to become an advocate for this widespread change, can anyone suggest how would I start? I currently live in a small town in Alaska.
